Let’s be clear: this is a neighborhood trail. Don’t expect jaw-dropping waterfalls, striking wildlife encounters (except deer), or pushing your capabilities to the limit. But as a neighborhood trail, Coyote Hill Loop is about as good as it gets. If you can get out there around sunset, it’s even more impressive. Half the loop treats you to serene views of Pagosa Peak and its lush western slope. The trail itself is extremely well groomed, with only the occasional root to avoid. Excellent for a quickly-paced hike or trail run. Ideal for dogs too. As mentioned by other commenters, you need to pass through two stock gates that are not marked. Please make sure to close the gates after you pass. This trail does need better marking, especially since it’s frequented by less seasoned hikers.
