Rabbit Ears Peak Trail
Steamboat Springs, Colorado
This was one of our tougher trails to review. The trail itself was exactly what we sought for a Sunday morning hike, meandering through aspen groves, scattered pines, and endless meadows. There weren’t many stream crossings, but they were spread enough to give the pups regular opportunities to drink and cool off. It wasn’t overly tough except for the last quarter mile, which climbed straight to the heavens, ending at the iconic Rabbit Ears. The downside to this trail was the volume of other hikers we encountered — perhaps 200 — and the fact that ATVs are able to use this trail. The drone of a quad fighting its way up the trail shattered our serenity. We highly recommend this hike, but maybe aim for a weekday when you’ll have a bit more solitude.
